Smooth Step-up: 2012 Hyundai Azera

Azera — Hyundai's new, close to being luxury sedan — slots into the Hyundai lineup exactly above the midsize Sonata and below the mid-luxury Genesis. The lie of the tape backs its standing in the assemblage. Azera is 3 1/2 inches longer, 1 inch wider and 0.2 inches taller than Sonata; 3 inches shorter, 1.2 inches narrower than Genesis.

Designated as a Scanty, Large Car by the EPA , Azera will joust in the marketplace with models like the Toyota Avalon, Nissan Maxima, Buick LaCrosse, Acura TL and Lexus ES350: overwhelmingly cars all, with luxury leanings. Azera is all new for 2012.

One way to find out a car's class is to count the cylinders below the hood. With few exceptions, a step up in stock is accompanied by an increase in engine size. So it is that Sonata fields a three of four bangers, while Genesis offers a six and an eight. Azera is parked right-wing in the middle, the sole engine gift being a 3.3 liter V6. The direct injection motor generates 293 horsepower and 255 lb. ft. of torque, and it's matched with a six-go like a bat out of hell automatic transmission. The even-tempered mechanism ushers the Azera along nicely, and the six-speediness transmission provides quiet facilities from gear to gear. Fuel frugality is EPA rated at 20 city/29 highway. That ties Azera for first in its division in both city and highway mileage, with the Acura TL. Underpinning the Azera's 112-inch wheelbase is a MacPherson parade front suspension, and independent, multi-coupling rear.

Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich add public events in Mobile

Mechanical is emerging as a political hotbed for the American football gridiron of candidates seeking the Republican Function's presidential nomination.

A local Republican authorized said today that former House Orator Newt Gingrich will hold a action rally at 7 p.m. Friday at the Henderson Pass Car Barn in Tillman's Corner. Gingrich will signify and take questions from audience members at the clientele event.

A local spokesman for the Rick Santorum struggle said the former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania will landlord a campaign rally at 9 a.m. Friday at the USS Alabama Battleship Garden. The public event will be held in the park's Aircraft Pavilion.

Santorum also is scheduled to symbolize at a private dinner tonight in Nimble, where he will address members of the Alabama Action Institute, a Birmingham-based reactionary think tank.

The event is a blow the whistle on-out with more than 500 tickets sold, according to organizers.
