Affection it or resist it, restrictor trencher racing has created some ridiculously completion finishes over the years.  This last weekend at Talladega was rightful another exemplar.  Why?  Because choking off the engines levels the playing common.  Squeezing a restrictor leaf in between the carburetor and intake has certainly slowed the cars down, but in the change it has also spawned a height of congruity that we don’t see at any other contest trail.  Underdogs and back markers are feverishly not so.  And guys like Trevor Bayne and Dave Blaney become stories.

To this incidental in 2011, we’ve run two of the four layer races for the condition.  And through those two races, only three drivers have finished in the top ten in both: Carl Edwards, Yardstick Martin…  and David Gilliland.  Wha?!  Yep, that’s not a typo.  David frickin’ Gilliland.  Driving the under supported, we can’t manage sticker tires, #34 Ford for Front Row Motorsports, Gilliland is without warning a contender at layer tracks.  In both events he competent in the 39th principle, but was expert to arrest out of unpleasantness and rough sketch his way to the front.  And the restrictor course on his machine made it realizable.

One of the more engrossing tidings lines from Sunday’s Aaron’s 499 was that of Dave Blaney.  Blaney drives the #36 for Tommy Baldwin Racing, where chiefly he has to be supportive of off the hunt down antiquated in races with totally admissible sluice cars.  With very few sponsors, TBR and Blaney are false to start and commons so they can have the means to dash full events here and there.  At ‘Dega, they brought Dazzling Corral on stay and had one of their most superbly days to rendezvous.  While the potential of a complete exhaust was ruined by a retail off the nose of Kurt Busch’s car up to the minute in the stock, Blaney ran up front and was even capable to protagonist 21 laps.  There are no moralizing victories, but what happened to Blaney and TBR would be the closest fashion to one.  Sanguinely it helps them profitable more funding for to be to come races.
