AMHERSTBURG — Some of the finest young public speakers in town converged on Superb Canadian Legion Br. 157 Sunday afternoon for the Legion’s annual oration competition.
Representatives from four schools participated although all ten close schools were invited. Ruth Ann Rocheleau, stool of the branch’s youth education commission, was happy with the turnout.
“We had nine altogether,” said Rocheleau. “It wasn’t too bad.”
Rocheleau said the application was definitely seen in this year’s participants.
“I meditating they were very good,” she said. “They all tried very straightforward.”
There was a different twist this year as well.
“We had two students who spoke French which we never had before,” said Rocheleau.
Such contests lend a hand students with their self-confidence, she believed. There is also district talent in the poster competition, she added, noting that one took first and three more won alternate at a recent zone competition.
