Mitsubishi Eclipse

The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a two-door front-whither-drive sports coupe, built in the U.S. at a mill in Normal, Illinois. A mainstay of Mitsubishi's U.S. lineup of cars, the Eclipse has been on trade here since 1989. Today's Eclipse competes against the likes of the Honda Concord coupe, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, and undignified V-6 versions of the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro.

The first-days Eclipse is likely the most loved by enthusiasts. Sold in like forms by the Chrysler Corporation as the Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser, the Eclipse initially was offered with a pick of four-cylinder and turbocharged four-cylinder engines. On turbocharged versions, the Eclipse could be had with a guide transmission with 195 horsepower and all-whirl location drive, and that Eclipse GSX regularly won magazine point of agreement tests and landed on best-of lists.

With the help-generation Eclipse (1995-1999), production moved to Illinois, and the car added three new off cousins. From some shared running accouterments, Chrysler and Mitsubishi developed the two-door Trick Avenger and Chrysler Sebring coupe, which had more in bourgeois with the four-door Mitsubishi Galant. All shared the same Illinois works. While it grew somewhat larger and less drawing, this Eclipse gained power, with top versions making 210 hp. A Spyder convertible joined the lineup for the 1997 ideal year. It had lost its Plymouth type in 1994; in 1998 the Eagle trade name closed down, leaving the Eclipse the sole surviving triplet.

First Coast Gears: Blending Chevelle, Camaro, Past and Future

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- At the Old Florida Cafe Pass Car and Truck Show on Philips Highway, a 1970 Chevelle SS, which Sunshine Country Chevelles President Chris Conover helped give, was among the classics on display.  

A like Chevelle (see screengrab in photo slider or in video below) makes a split assign appearance in a promotional video for Chevrolet's Principles 130R concept, a car that blends styling cues from the current day Camaro and, if the video is to be believed, master-work Chevelles.

That had me wondering. Could the Code130R end up being a next era Chevelle?  Let's take a look.

It holds true to the telling of the Chevelle in that it's a rear-wheel intend, two-door coupe that would be a step below the Camaro.

But different from the top-of-the-line 454 (7.4 liter) Big-Plan b mask Cowl Induction Chevelle of 1970, the Rules 130R has its eye on fuel economy.  It's powered by a unassuming hybrid set-up with Chevrolet's 1.4 liter Ecotech turbocharged DOHC I-4 with eAssist.  Although no zero to 60 times have been quoted, Chevrolet does say you're looking at about 150 horsepower and 40 mpg with a starting expenditure in the low-20s.

Fifteen-year-old Erik Jones ready for ARCA Racing Series debut

Travelling, Alabama --The ARCA Racing Series has become a proving settlings for young drivers on their way to NASCAR, providing the occasion for regional hotshots to handle a conveyance heavier than a late model on a watch bigger than their local bullring.

Some learn their lessons well. For benchmark, six of the top 11 finishers at this year's Daytona 500 had ARCA savvy.

Now into the series' high-speed classroom for the automotively first-class comes its youngest student ever: Erik Jones, a 15-year-old from Byron, Mich., is entered in the Plastic ARCA 200, which rolls off at 2 p.m. Saturday at Plastic International Speedway, a Rick Crawford Gig Track.

Jones can become the first 15-year-old driver in ARCA's 60 years because of a new rule change. The series amended its 16-year-old minimum driver age to permit approved 15-year-olds to collide on tracks of 1 mile or shorter.

Driving the No. 55 Standard Corvette Reproductions Chevrolet, Jones will add another "youngest" to his catalogue of achievements. For instance, he's the youngest conquering hero in the history of the ASA Late Model Northern Series.
