With the headline takeaway being that this is Nokia's cheapest Symbian^3-in front smartphone, at around £140 SIM-unsparing in the UK, it's somewhat staggering to look at the specifications and betrothal them up to Nokia's most expensive smartphones of 2008 and 2009. With digital compass, dual charging, capacitive touchscreen, pentaband and a 1GHz processor, it's still moderately remarkable to find such goodies in something that's very firmly the bottom of Nokia's present-day Symbian range.

Yet bottom of the range it fundamentally is, in the context of 2012. The two dominating limitations in the Nokia 500 are its recall and its screen:

By 'memory', I mean RAM, in this case. Although it starts with the same 256MB as the Nokia N8 (et al), because there's no GPU (i.e. a graphics scrap, with its own RAM and capabilities), around 64MB of the Nokia 500's RAM is allocated to handling graphics duties (a unrivalled situation in the modern Symbian midwife precisely, thankfully), leaving the smartphone with moral 66MB or so free RAM after boot-up.  fun and I can certainly see the consumer appeal.

Samsung Galaxy Note (AT&T): Full Review

The Galaxy Note was capable to keep up with our scribblings very easily; we didn't have to stick around for the screen to catch up with the pen, and we liked how the Galaxy Note felt like a notepad in our hands. You can also change-over the type of brush being used (pen, pencil, broom or highlighter), as well as adjust its color, thickness and vagueness. Unfortunately, that's where its usefulness ends.

For one, the S Memo's handwriting admission is lacking. We had to be very deliberate when writing to certain any kind of success. Even the manner in which you use handwriting-to-quotation is a little balky; In order to galvanize this feature, you must press the Menu button at the bottom of the Galaxy Note's bezel. However, these buttons don't give recognition to the stylus, so you have to switch back to your finger, which is less than intuitive.

The capacitive buttons don't step palm rejection, either. Occasionally when book, our hand would brush up against one of the Android buttons at the bottom of the qualify, which would bring up the Voice Search menu, interrupting our typing.

Little Ford Focus is all grown up

Sanctum sanctorum the ads in the Wheels section (we all do that, right?) and you’ll see the all-new 2012 Ford Fuzzy advertised for just north of 15 big. Of course, this figure represents the currish S sedan riding on 15-inch sword wheels with a stir-your-own five-speed pause at.

What if you went to your local Ford keep and declared, “I want to buy a Concentrate please, but I’d like to spend about double the starting outlay. Can you help me?”

You bet.

I recently tested a Zero in Titanium Hatchback loaded with practically every possible option — it came in at $30,329 before payload and taxes. A lot for a tarted-up compact thrift car, yet this Focus cannot fairly be described as such. It’s a undersized car all grown up. I see this model appealing to a more perfect demographic — those wanting to downsize and get the menial fuel economy without giving up on big car splendour doodads.

The new European-developed “sphere car” Focus, fitted with a 160 hp 2.0L matter-of-fact-injection four for North America (and built in Wayne, Mich.), has been getting rhapsodize over reviews. After my first stint behind the wheel I can see what the furor is about — rock-solid construction, abundant four-door hatch styling (the sedan not so much), sharpened steering, crisp handling, a property and stylish interior, quiet highway cruising and an to hand six-speed twin-clutch shipment (more on that later).
