Volkswagen Beetle first drive

It has entranced Volkswagen 73 years to get to the third contemporaries of their Beetle.

In my lifetime the Beetle has always been with us but the latest incarnation, although very retro in configuration, is a much more muscular, even macho, three door coupe styled mock-up.  Prices are tempting starting from £16,490 for the 1.2-litre TSI 105PS turbocharged petrol with its criterion seven-speed DSG automated gearbox rising currently to £21,220 for the 1.4-litre TSI 160PS pair-charge petrol unit with a six fly manual transmission.  More costly models will be added to the categorize.

UK deliveries from April this year will only be the 1.4-litre style due to the worldwide demand for 1.2-litre engines.  More power units will also be introduced to the employ c queue up-up in due course as will a cabriolet version.

The original presentation Beetle with its rear mounted four cylinder air-cooled Boxer 24hp petrol apparatus was launched in 1938 and was simply known as the Volkswagen but it gained a raft of pet names across the period.  Whatever it was called over 21.5 million have been sold in its lifetime.
